Well, SOMEBODY Got a New Effects Pedal.

That SOMEBODY was John Scofield, and he used it to the hilt. Wow. There was one pretty tune (an actual tune, not a cacophony of organ screeches and weird pedal sounds) that was called Flower Power. That was nice. If the whole concert could have been like that, I would have liked it very much.

I had no idea how great Jean Luc-Ponty and his band would be. They got three standing ovations (okay, a little much, but they were absolutely excellent), and just blew everyone away. All the band members were wonderful, energetic, and innovative players. What a delight!

It sounds like you were a little underwhelmed with the Scofield Trio. According to Jack Garner in this mornings D&C a lot of people were there to see Jean Luc-Ponty and bailed after he was done. Actually Jack's review is the polar opposite of yours. Never can tell with Jazz!!

Jack's reviews are almost always the polar opposite of mine! Yeah, half the crowd bailed after the Trio's first song. I wasn't ready to call it quits there; I thought that was an aberration. I know, after what Joe said when it was over, the Scofield didn't sound anything, last night, like any of the recordings he has of him. He was pretty surprised, too.
